the big zero one.

Yesterday was a day for firsts.

Beckett tried peaches for the first time, though I'm not sure he liked them.

We had our first family meal at a restaurant in the US. Beckett tasted his first potato. He might be in love.

Beckett and my dad celebrated their first co-birthday. Dad's birthday (and Beckett's) is on the 12th. For years I've called on the 11th, completely convinced that the 11th was in fact the correct day, and every year Dad would thank me for being the first to call and then remind me that his actual birthday was the following day. Good news Dad, now I'll get it right.

Beckett tasted his Aunt Sara's cakes for the first time. He thought they were tasty but had more fun examining the plate and playing in the icing than eating the cake.

The little man had his first taste of homemade ice cream. He liked it almost as much as the potatoes.

And, just in case I didn't make it clear, Beckett turned one! Happy birthday baby boy!

Our Compass...

All (Ken here) -

The gentleman in the photo is Minh. He was out guide and compass in Vietnam. He's a supremely splendid fellow. He was our main contact during our stay in Vietnam. If he said it, we did it. Never did we have any concerns or worries. For the two weeks we were in country, he spent so much time working for our group at the expense of time with his wife and two children. It was clear to me that he believes in the inherent benefits of international adoption and cares for each child. Again, a very good man. If you have honor of meeting or working with him...listen closely and put your worries behind you. Oh...and tell him that Ken, Jess, and Long (Beckett) say "hello."

I've posted some new photos to the photo pages. There are a couple from our homecoming and getting acclimated around the house. Also...a surprise pre-birthday gift from the Condrays and a super-surprise visit from the Hortons and baby Jack.
