fun with essay questions

We've finished all of our essay questions and the application, part 1, will be in the Wednesday mail. Hooray! In case you are curious, this chart shows approximate wait times from one step to the next.

It's a small world.

They say that when you begin the adoption process, people who are doing the same thing will come out of the woodwork. I thought that was cliche, but it seems to be true. We know of old college profs that have a new daughter from China, peripheral friends who just received a referral from Vietnam, and neighbors three houses down also adopting from Vietnam. To be fair, we haven't met the neighbors, but now that we know about them we'll have to make a point of meeting. Former coworkers, current coworkers, and former neighbors are all adoptive parents. And our good pals Kat and Collin now have one of the most adorable families ever. People say that adoption is unusual, but with this many adoptive families surfacing during the few short days of our journey, it's clear that the adoptive community is more prevalent that most people think, and we look forward to joining their ranks.

I found this article about international adoption. Kind of interesting, though not completely relevant.
