and all i wanted was lunch...
It all started with an innocent trip to the grocery store where I spied a lovely looking Pumelo (Pomello). Always game to try new things, and remembering a salad recipe that called for Pumelos in my Vietnamese cookbook, I tossed it into my cart. At lunch today I decided to peel the fruit and make the salad. Easy, right? Wrong.
The first photo here is of the pile of peel and membrane that I had amassed after 15 minutes of peeling. The second photo shows the finished product. A giant pile of carnage with a wee bit of fruit. Sheesh! The good news is that I may have found the perfect diet food. It seems that after working for close to 25 minutes to disassemble the darn thing, the resulting fruity goodness is only about 50 calories. I'm pretty sure I burned at least two calories per minute while I wrestled with the fruit, plus I only ate about half of it on my salad. Clearly, the third photo is of the salad. It was yummy. The Pumello (Pomelo) was pretty tasty too. Sort of like a sweeter, drier, more floral tasting grapefruit. Was is worth the effort? I'm not sure about that.
