the shots are how much?

I would like to post a formal protest. Perhaps I missed the info in one of our zillion piles of paper, but I don't recall seeing anything regarding the cost of travel vaccinations. Maybe nobody mentions the numbers because insurance should cover it. Maybe people think that we've already spent a lot, so what's a little more. Maybe I'm being a bit reactionary, but this bothers me.

We have to go the the UAMS Travel Clinic for our travel vaccinations. Despite the fact that we have insurance, the travel clinic doesn't accept insurance. What? That are AT a hospital!!! Grrr!

Recommended vaccinations for Vietnam include:
  • Hepatitis A: 3 rounds at $80 each
  • Hepatitis B: 3 rounds at $70 each
  • Typhoid : $86
  • Japanese Encephalitis: $110
  • Malaria Med Consultation: $52
  • TOTAL: $698 each!
I'm sorry, WHAT?!?!? Seriously? Did other folks have this same experience? I'm I just getting the runaround and don't know it? Is it unreasonable to think that insurance should cover these? I know it isn't possible to make folks aware of every penny that will be spent, and I'm not asking for that. I simply wish that I had been warned of a possible $1400 expenditure. Uuugggggggghh!
