WTF? OMG! What in the world is a LID?

Understanding adoption lingo is harder than deciphering teenage text messages. To that end, I thought I'd shed some light on the abbreviations you might see on this blog, as well as others.

DTV: Dossier to Vietnam. This is the day that the agency puts your completed dossier in the mail to the Vietnamese Government. DTC is Dossier to China, DTK is Dossier to Korea... you get the idea.

LID: Log In Date. This is the date the the Vietnamese Government acknowledge the receipt and review of your dossier. Theoretically, one can expect to travel 3-6 months from LID. Of course, that assumes that there is already an accepted referral.

G&R: Giving and Receiving Ceremony. After the final dossier review, the Vietnamese government will set a day for the Giving and Receiving ceremony. This is the day the the child officially becomes a part of the family. In the case of Vietnam, you usually find out the G&R date and receive travel approval concurrently.

TA: Travel Approval. This one is self explanatory.

DOB: Date of Birth DOR: Date of Referral

BTW, our DOR was 12/12, our DTV is 1/26, and we are currently waiting on our LID.*

*By the way, our date of referral was December 12, our dossier went to Vietnam on January 26, and we are currently waiting on our log in date.
