eight months...

Beckett turned 8 months old last Monday. This photo was taken on Tuesday. I think he is absolutely adorable, but I'm clearly biased. I'm also back to being extremely impatient. I want to go get my little guy. I'm sad that we're missing milestones like rolling over, and maybe sitting up. I know that we'll get to see lots of other milestones as they happen, but today I'm sad because I feel like I'm missing out on things. Beckett is missing out on things. He has a family that is waiting for him and he doesn't even know it. Ok, Rachel probably told him, but that's beside the point. I'm ready to go. Ken's ready to go. Here's hoping that we are travelling by his birthday!

call me creative, just don't call me cheap

This whole adoption thing is making me a bit, well... thrifty. Not that I'm adverse to spending money. I enjoy a good shopping trip, I adore expensive shoes, and own a few too many party dresses that are almost never worn. Despite recent comments to the contrary, I'm not cheap. That having been said, I am somewhat offended by the prices that are charged for things that cost nothing to manufacture. I'm all for profit, but a 10,000% mark up seems a bit insane. To that end, I found a wall mobile that I just had to have for the little man's room. Said wall mobile appears in the photo inset at the left. I love it! It's $180. Not only is it $180 before almost $20 for shipping, it's made of 1/4" thick foam and monofilament!! Wait a minute, WHAT?!?! I decided that I could make one myself. I marched myself down to hobby lobby and secured what I'm sure will be a lifetime supply of 1/4" foam. In the end I only used 3 sheets. I have close to 50 remaining! Then I went to K-mart and found the rod used for hanging the mobile. Add in some glue, 25lb test clear monofilament fishing line, and a pack of silver crimp beads, and you have all the necessary supplies. Total cost: $28.72 including enough supplies to make about 12 more mobiles. Time invested, about 2 hours. In the end, I'm pleased. It's abstract, exactly the right colors, and adds the perfect touch of modern whimsy to his room. Oh, and I saved over $150! Just enough to get that purse I've had my eye on... Kidding. I'm kidding. Or am I? : )
