one month from one... and some travel stuff
The little dude is 11 months old today. In one month he will be a year old. Wow. I have to admit to wondering what his birth mother is thinking. I hope she has found some peace. I hope she has an inkling of how much we appreciate her strength and courage. I hope she knows that her little boy is loved by more people than she can possibly imagine. I hope for alot of things, but I am way too hopped up on caffeine to wax philosophical at the moment so we'll save that line of thought for another day.
Today I wanna talk about Travel Insurance. Would you get it? Should you get it? Am I crazy because I got it? I prefer to think I'm cautious as opposed to crazy, but I am clearly biased. In any event, I opted to get some coverage for the upcoming trek, and thought that my Blogland pals might find this info useful.
We opted to go with Global Travel Shield. We chose the trip delay policy which covers the costs of lodging (up to $150 per person) if you’re stranded due to a missed flight connection or a canceled, delayed, or overbooked flight. The medical plan will cover your emergency medical and dental expenses, as well as the costs of ambulance and evacuation services to the nearest adequate medical facility. In our case we went with coverage of $100,000 per person for actual medical/dental expenses, plus another $100,000 per person worth of evacuation and/or repatriation coverage. If, heaven forbid, you find yourself in a hospital for five or more days they will even fly someone to you to hang out at your bedside. Not too shabby if you ask me. Last, but not least, is the baggage protection plan. This policy covers you if your baggage or other personal effects are lost, delayed, damaged, or stolen during your trip, and provides complete point-to-point protection, including transportation to and from the airport, the flight itself, and even during your hotel stay. We went with a $500 pp baggage delay policy, and a $1000 pp baggage loss policy. The most incredible part is that we were able to purchase all of the above coverage for a total of $108!
I am aware that other providers are out there. I know some companies would let me pick the hospital to which I would be evacuated, but that wasn't of the utmost importance to me. Mostly I wanted to find a respected, well reviewed company that would allow me to tailor a policy to my specific needs without costing the same as my plane ticket. I'm totally happy with my decision and wanted to share my find with all of you soon to be travelers. Enjoy.
Oh yeah. We leave in 8 days.
GULP!
