today is the day, and a side of fall fun

For those of you who are unaware of the current state of VN adoption, allow me to cliffs note it for you. Corrupt people have done very bad things. There are confirmed cases of child trafficking. Clearly this is beyond bad. In some cases the badness may be restricted to individuals and in others entire agencies my be suspect. Unfortunately, very little is done to prevent such scandal and/or regulate whet agencies do in VN to protect the children. Meanwhile, the intercounty agreement between Vn and the US is up for review. A decision must be made by January if the program is to continue past June. To that end, a big summit has been called. The theory is that this summit will decide the fate of our intercountry agreement while also putting measures into place that should further restrict corruption. Theoretically.

The summit is today. The entire VN adoption community is holding it's collective breath. As someone who is no longer in process it is easy for me to remain calm, but for my friends waiting to travel or waiting on referrals, there is the fear that the travel date will never come. The agreement ended once before and many people were caught in the middle. Here's hoping that history doesn't repeat.
