tet. ah tet.

It's interesting to look at this holiday from an alternate perspective. At this time last year, Tet was the enemy. A month long holiday that virtually shuts down all government offices and completely halts all paperwork in its tracks. To a parent waiting to travel to pick bring their little one home, little causes more despair and anguish than the dreaded Tet delay. Now that the little dude is home I find myself embracing the spirit of the season. I made a version of pho for dinner. It was yummy. Even Bex ate some, though he couldn't quite manage the noodles. For dessert we enjoyed a ginger creme brulee. Both recipes were from Vietnamese Cooking Made Easy by Periplus Press.

This weekend we are hosting a Tet party. I can hardly wait. We're having it at one of those inflatable play zones with tons of jumping toys. We're expecting upwards of 20 kids, many of whom are around 2 years old. It should be a hoot and everyone should sleep well come Saturday night.

They say that the first person to visit your home on the first day of Tet symbolizes the things to come in that year. Some pals of mine had their home study today. Here's hoping that their first visitor truly represents forward progress in the VN program and the arrival of their little one before the year's end. Pretty cool day for your home study if you ask me.

Also, super huge congratulations to our pals Rob & Tricia on the referral of their second son! I'd give you a link but they are currently blog-less, at least for this journey.

Happy Tet Y'all!

brush, brush, brush

In honor of National Dental Health Month I thought I'd take one for the team and post a less than flattering photo. A you can see, the little dude and I are brushing our teeth. Aren't we pretty?

According to the American Dental Association:

"Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums."

Right on. In my world I think that mastering the toothbrush in mouth maneuver can only help things along in the spoon and fork department, and I am quite ready for a little more self feeding.

Thanks for your input and emails on the school issue mentioned in the last post. Please continue to weigh in. I need perspective.
