shades of grey

Yesterday marked the end of adoptions between the US and Vietnam, at least for awhile. As for how long, nobody knows. Some rumors are saying that VN will be Hague compliant by April 09, yet that process takes a long time and 8 months doesn't seem achievable. Others think a new MOU will be in place by the end of the year, but since VN has not yet appointed a negotiator to work with the US, I find that a bit unlikely as well. I desperately long for things to be resolved so that all of the kiddos in orphanages can be united with their forever families, but above all else I want to make sure that those children aren't unwilling participants in unethical processes. In order to for better processes to be put into place, new legislation must be drafted, and for that, we wait.

The uncertainty surrounding this latest moratorium is nothing short of devastating. I am deeply saddened for those of you still waiting on referrals that didn't come by the cutoff date, and I pray that your continued wait will be brief.
